4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Southern California

Magnitude 4.4 Quake Strikes Near Los Angeles

Powerful Tremor Felt Throughout the Region

A shallow 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, sending powerful tremors throughout the region and shaking buildings from San Diego to Santa Barbara. The quake, which occurred at 12:20 p.m. PT, was centered just north of downtown Los Angeles, near the Highland Park neighborhood.

The quake was widely felt across Southern California, triggering a brief moment of panic and causing residents to flee their homes and businesses. Many reported feeling a strong shaking that lasted for several seconds, followed by a series of smaller aftershocks.

The temblor caused widespread power outages in parts of Los Angeles and surrounding areas, leaving thousands of people without electricity. Several buildings in the epicentral area were also damaged, with reports of cracked walls and broken windows.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake was relatively shallow, occurring at a depth of approximately six miles. This shallow depth likely contributed to the intensity of the shaking felt on the surface.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries or fatalities as a result of the earthquake. However, officials are urging residents to remain cautious and inspect their properties for damage.
