In a thrilling game that came down to the final seconds, the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 108-105 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving led the way for the Mavericks, with Doncic posting 29 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists, and Irving adding 16 points and 6 assists. The duo combined to shoot 18-of-38 from the field. Despite the loss, the Timberwolves showed plenty of fight. Karl-Anthony Towns had his best game of the series, finishing with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Anthony Edwards also stepped up, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. The Timberwolves trailed by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, but a strong Anthony Edwards quarter drew them back into the game. Edwards scored 10 points in the quarter, including a pair of three-pointers, and the Timberwolves cut the Mavericks' lead to just three points heading into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage. The Mavericks held a four-point lead with less than two minutes remaining, but the Timberwolves fought back to tie the game at 105-105 with just over a minute remaining. However, a crucial turnover by Edwards with less than 30 seconds remaining gave the ball back to the Mavericks. Maxi Kleber hit a jumper with just 4.6 seconds remaining, and the Mavericks held on for the victory.
