Chicago hit by a series of tornadoes in recent weeks

Tornadoes have touched down in the Chicago area multiple times in recent weeks, causing damage and prompting warnings.

On Wednesday, at least 11 tornadoes touched down in parts of the area, while another storm cell prompted tornado warnings.

At least three tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area late on Wednesday, damaging homes and uprooting trees, according to the National Weather Service. The tornadoes were part of a larger storm system that brought heavy rain and thunderstorms to the region.

On Sunday night, three tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area, including two on the city's South Side, the National Weather Service said. The tornadoes caused damage to homes and businesses, and downed trees and power lines.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that multiple tornadoes touched down in the Chicago area Wednesday evening, including one that caused significant damage in the south suburbs.

Tuesday's severe weather outbreak in the Chicago area spawned golf ball-size hail and several tornado touchdowns, but it is not yet clear how many of those occurred.
