Severe Storms Pose Risk to 20 Million

Preliminary Reports Indicate 79 Tornadoes

A tornado tore through central Nebraska, signaling the start of a severe storm system that is expected to impact the Midwest, placing approximately 20 million people at risk, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

AccuWeather Storm Chaser and Meteorologist Tony Laubach witnessed the initial tornado's touchdown.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least 79 tornadoes touched down across six states on Friday, with the majority occurring in Nebraska and Iowa. Homes have been leveled, businesses destroyed, and infrastructure damaged.

The NWS is urging residents in Nebraska and Iowa to take precautions, as the storm system is expected to continue producing tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds.
