Alex de Minaur Spoils Rafael Nadal's Comeback Week in Barcelona
De Minaur Defeats Nadal 7-5, 6-1 to Advance
Alex de Minaur spoiled Rafael Nadal's comeback week on Wednesday when he defeated the Spaniard 7-5 6-1 at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.
De Minaur was rapid, ruthless and relentless in his victory, breaking Nadal's serve twice in the first set and three times in the second. Nadal, who was playing in his first tournament since the Australian Open, looked rusty at times and was unable to keep up with De Minaur's pace and power.
Despite the loss, Nadal was gracious in defeat and praised De Minaur for his classy gesture towards him after the match. "He's a great player and a great guy," Nadal said. "I wish him all the best for the rest of the tournament."
