Man City and Liverpool Reach Semi-Finals
Liverpool will contest the Champions League final against Manchester City or Real Madrid after defeating Villarreal on Tuesday.
The Reds produced a scintillating first-half display to stun Manchester City 3-0 in the first leg of their semi-final tie at Anfield.
Goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Thiago Alcantara gave Liverpool a commanding lead going into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium next week.
Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott were full of praise for Liverpool's performance after the game.
"They were absolutely magnificent," said Ferdinand. "They played with such intensity and quality. They were a joy to watch."
"They were clinical in front of goal and they defended really well," added Lescott. "They made it very difficult for Manchester City to create any chances."
Liverpool will now be confident of reaching the Champions League final for the third time in four years. They will face either Manchester City or Real Madrid in the final in Paris on May 28.
